The typhoon ravaged Leyte, Eastern Samar and other provinces in the central Philippines and left more than 6,300 people dead and 1,000 missing. One mass grave in Tacloban has more than 2,000 mostly unidentified bodies. Other mass graves containing typhoon victims are in nearby Palo and Tanauan townships.
